Even the most journalistically impressive media outlets in emerging markets may lack basic management knowledge and skills, and this can considerably limit their chances of growth and survival.
MDLF works with every client over the long-term to help them reach their goal of financial sustainability, providing everything from support with developing a business plan in the initial stages of applying for MDLF financing, to assistance in selecting and deploying equipment, to advice on how to improve company ownership structures and advertising sales.
Once a company has become an MDLF client, it must submit financial reports on a monthly basis. MDLF shows management how to do this, often introducing them to international accounting standards for the very first time. MDLF then monitors the company’s finances, checks that they are meeting business plan projections and maintains regular contact to discuss everything from human resources management to distribution strategy. If the company needs specialist assistance, MDLF will send a relevant expert – whenever possible another client with first-hand experience of the problem – to provide hands-on, on-site support.
MDLF’s approach means that it can help a company identify problems before they happen and support management in overcoming them.
